Now, to replace the “sethc.exe” file with the “cmd.exe” file, enter the following command.

The switch / y confirms that the file “sethc.exe” is overwritten.

Enter “exit” command to close the cmd, remove the bootable device from the system and restart your laptop/computer again. As soon the Windows 7 login screen appears, hit the Shift key five times to enter into command prompt again.

Now its time to reset your Windows 7 password, Enter the following command to reset a new password for your Windows 7.

net <username> <new pasword>
net username new password

Remember that we created a backup of “sethc.exe” file” to avoid from any mishappen, now when the password is successfully restored, reboot your system again and attach this bootable USB into the system to enter into the command prompt again. Type this command to place it back to its original location.

copy /y C:\sethc.exe C:\Windows\System32\sethc.exe

That’s it, exit the cmd and restart your Windows 7 to log in with the new password.
