Quick Summary

Wondershare Dr.Fone is a collection of tools to help you deal with various technical issues on your iOS or Android device without needing intervention from an expert.

For instance, if you accidentally delete an important file from your phone, Dr.Fone promises to help you retrieve the file with just a few simple clicks.

Here is the complete list of all tools included in the toolkit.

  • Phone manager – Created to help you manage all the files on your phone directly from your computer. It also serves as an easy way to transfer data between Apple and non-Apple devices.
  • WhatsApp transfer –  This module will help you backup and restore messages and attachments for popular social media apps, including WhatsApp, LINE, Viber, WeChat, and Kik. You can also use it to transfer your WhatsApp data from one device to another.
  • Password manager – This module scans for all saved passwords on your iPhone and securely stores them on your computer.
  • Screen unlock – This tool will help remove your iPhone password and screen unlock in case you can’t remember them.
  • System repair – This module helps you easily fix common smartphone problems like a failure to boot and a black screen. It also helps fix iTunes issues like startup errors, update errors, and syncing problems.
  • Phone transfer – This tool will help you migrate all your data from your old device to your new device so that you don’t have to start from fresh.
  • Phone backup – Unlike WhatsApp backup, this module helps you backup everything on your phone, including iTunes or iCloud backups.
  • Data eraser – This tool is meant to help you permanently delete any file that can’t be recovered, even using the best iPhone data recovery software.
  • Virtual location – This tool will help change your phone’s GPS location, so it doesn’t match your physical location.
  • InClowdz – This tool exists to help you move your backups from one cloud location to another.
  • MirrorGo – This last tool helps you mirror your phone’s screen to your computer screen.

Now, on paper, everything looks perfect. But, do all these tools perform as expected? The simple answer is yes. Unfortunately, it’s not all simple, and as you will find out later in this post, when we perform hands-on testing, each tool has its limitations.

Let’s get on with it.

What is Wondershare Dr.Fone?

If you have used your smartphone long enough, you have most definitely encountered issues you couldn’t deal with on your own.

Maybe you accidentally deleted an important file and need to recover it. Maybe you can’t log in to your device because you forgot your unlock pattern. It could also be something as mundane as transferring a file from your Windows PC to your iPhone or backing up your phone’s data to your computer.

What if, instead of seeking the services of a phone expert, you could deal with these issues on your own?

That is exactly what Dr.Fone aims to do. It’s a complete toolkit comprising simple solutions to various Android and iOS issues.

What I Like (Pros)

  • Saves you the hassle of visiting a phone repair shop
  • Multiple useful tools in one package
  • Easy to use
  • Can be installed on both Windows and Mac
  • Works on both Android and iOS devices

What I Don’t Like (Cons)

  • Only works on specific phone models
  • Some tools don’t work as expected

Is Wondershare Dr.Fone Safe?

When you use Wondershare Dr.Fone, you give it access to all your phone data, including sensitive financial information. The tool can even read your account usernames and associated passwords.

It’s, therefore, understandable that you would be worried about the software’s safety. To put your mind at ease, in the years that Wondershare has been in operation, they have not been involved in any scandal involving misuse of their customer’s data.

The company is also very clear about not storing any of your sensitive information on their servers.

And if you are worried about malware, that shouldn’t be a problem as long as you get the software from trusted sources. Still, we scanned the toolkit for malware as a precaution, and it came out clean.

That said, you may want to be careful when performing tasks such as screen unlock and system repair. This is because they involve alteration of your OS and, if interrupted midway, could corrupt the OS and brick your phone.

Is Wondershare Dr.Fone Free?

No, the software is not free. However, Wondershare offers a limited version of each tool to allow you to test it before you can make a purchase.

The premium version of Dr.Fone is available in three plans.

  • Dr.Fone iOS toolkit – This package only consists of tools specific to iOS and is currently going for $99.95.
  • Dr.Fone Android toolkit – Consists of all tools specific to Android and is currently going for $79.95.
  • Dr.Fone Full toolkit – Consists of all tools for both Android and iOS devices and is currently going for $139.95.

You can also opt to purchase any single tool you want if you have no use for the complete package.

Wondershare offers a 7-day money-back guarantee for all the tools allowing you to get a refund if you can prove that the software was unable to perform your intended function. However, the company will not issue a refund if your complaint is based on your misunderstanding of the phone’s capability.

Just another reason why this review is critical. We aim to help you avoid situations where you purchase Dr.Fone with the wrong expectations.

Is Wondershare Dr.Fone Legit?

Is Dr.Fone a scam? No. Anybody telling you that probably used the software on a non-supported phone model. I think the company should be more transparent to avoid unnecessary reputation damage.

The truth is Dr.Fone is a legit software dedicated to improving your overall experience with your phone.

But this shouldn’t even be an issue because the software offers a trial version.

If it’s deleted files you want to recover, Dr. Fone’s recovery tool will scan your phone for free and display files that can be retrieved. Suppose your deleted files are not on the list of discovered items, then there is no need to purchase the premium plan.

Does Wondershare Dr.Fone Work? Hands-on Testings

You already know what each tool is supposed to do, but how well does it do it? We put Dr.Fone to the test, and these were our findings.

Dr.Fone Data Recovery

Dr.Fone data recovery review

This is one tool I really wanted to be perfect because it’s one of the major reasons many people purchase Dr.Fone. Unfortunately, in our tests, the software only managed to discover files already on my iPhone.

The deleted photos that you see on the above screenshot were still in my ‘Recently Deleted’ folder. I emptied the folder and did a rescan, and the recovery tool could not find them.

To their credit, Dr.Fone warns that if you are using iOS version 12 and above, the possibility of recovering your lost data is very low. Also, if it’s been a long time since the data was deleted, the software won’t recover it because it has probably been overwritten from the system.

Dr.Fone has a low possibility to recover lost data from iOS 12 upwards

In the case of Android, Dr.Fone can’t scan for deleted files unless your device has been rooted. But even after trying to recover data from a rooted phone, the tool only discovered items that were still on my phone.

Dr.Fone also promises to help you recover deleted WhatsApp messages, but this is only possible if you have previously backed your WhatsApp data to your computer either using iTunes or through Dr. Fone’s backup options.

Lastly, the tool also claims to help you recover data from a broken phone. However, this feature only works on iPhones and selected Samsung models. Regrettably didn’t have any broken phone I could use to perform tests.

Dr.Fone Phone manager

I didn’t have any issues using this tool. On the contrary, I was impressed with its ability to manage all my files from one place instead of having to navigate through multiple folders. I also loved how it simplifies transferring files between iOS devices and Windows computers.

Dr.Fone WhatsApp transfer

I also found this tool to work without any major issues. The only catch is that when backing up messages and attachments for the various social apps, Dr.Fone uninstalls the official application and installs a special version.

These new versions cannot be updated through your phone’s app store.

Dr.Fone Password Manager

This new feature has been introduced to the latest version of Dr.Fone and did not disappoint.

After a scan that lasted about 10 minutes, the password manager discovered multiple passwords stored on my iPhone, including WiFi passwords, mail account passwords, and passwords for various online websites. It also found my Apple ID and login password.

This tool is only available for iOS devices.

Dr.Fone Screen unlock

The screen unlock module works as expected. Hopefully, you don’t have any important files you can’t bear to lose because removing screen patterns without erasing all the phone data is impossible.

Dr.Fone Screen unlock erases all data

Dr.Fone System repair

I could not test this tool because I couldn’t find a broken phone. However, I’ve heard what other users say, and it works as expected.

The only downside is that if you are using Android, any fix you apply will completely erase your phone data because the process involves flashing your phone with a new OS.

Fortunately, iPhone users get the chance to fix their phone issues without data loss by applying the standard repair. However, if that does not work, they have to resort to the advanced mode, which involves a complete data wipe.

Dr.Fone MirrorGo

Dr.Fone MirrorGo review

This tool works great. I successfully mirrored my phone screen to my computer and could control the phone directly from the computer.

The android version of the tool is more feature rich allowing you to use your computer’s keyboard for mobile phone gaming and transfer files between your Android phone and computer.

However, it only lets you mirror your phone using a USB cable as opposed to the iOS version, which enables you to mirror your phone via WiFi.

That said, the tool did hang a couple of times when I tried to launch and close it prompting me to close it from the task manager. But, as it’s a new tool, these are bugs that I’m sure will be addressed in upcoming updates.

Dr.Fone MirrorGo is buggy

The remaining Dr.Fone tools don’t need any further elaboration. Phone backup works as expected and will let you backup files that wouldn’t be included on your normal phone backup.

Virtual location and InClowdz also work great but are only available for iOS devices.

Wondershare Dr.Fone Verdict: It’s a bummer that the data recovery module of the Dr.Fone toolkit doesn’t deliver as expected, but overall, Wondershare has created a great product. They have offered non-technical people the opportunity to take more control of their phones. Hopefully, they can expand the product to support more phone models.

Rating: 8.8/10

Where to Download Wondershare Dr.Fone?

The Dr.Fone toolkit is available for download on their official website. We strongly advise you against downloading the software from unknown sources. Be especially wary of the cracked version.

These could contain malware meant to steal your data or create a backdoor on your computer that hackers can exploit to perform further attacks on you. This is the last thing you want, especially for software that has unlimited access to your device.

Alternatives to Wondershare Dr.Fone

While Dr.Fone is a fantastic product with solid solutions, we have already established that the recovery module is not yet where it’s supposed to be. So it doesn’t work for you, here are some other solutions you can try.

1. PhoneRescue

imobie phonerescue review

Unlike Dr.Fone, PhoneRescue’s only function is to help you retrieve lost data on your Android or iOS device. The software features a simple interface so that non-technical people can easily and safely recover their data.

It can be installed on both Windows and macOS and will help recover over 31 different file types. These include photos, videos, audio, documents, contacts, call logs, and browser bookmarks.

2. Tenorshare UltData

Tenorshare UltData iPhone Data Recovery

If you are looking for a more feature-rich tool, then Tenorshare is a great option. It’s not as comprehensive as Dr.Fone but includes a system repair module and a backup module on top of data recovery.

Tenorshare Ultdata works for both iPhone and Android and will help you recover about 35 different data types. These include media files, call logs, contacts, messages, documents, and browsing history bookmarks.

You can use it to recover files directly from your phone or your iTunes and iCloud if you are on iOS.

Conclusion

There you have it. Everything you need to know about Wondershare Dr. Fone’s latest version. What do you think? Is it the right tool for you? Still not sure? Go ahead and download their free trial and test it yourself. You have nothing to lose.
